UCLA Wins Lady Rebel Shootout After 72-64 Win Over UNLV

Las Vegas, NV - The UCLA women's basketball team became the first team outside of UNLV to win the Lady Rebel Shootout, defeating UNLV in the championship game, 72-64. The Bruins' win was the first ever against UNLV in Cox Pavilion. Bruin guard Michelle Greco was selected the tournament MVP after scoring 26 points against the Lady Rebels.
The Bruins shot a blistering 76% from the field (19-25) in the first half and overcame a 20-12 deficit by outscoring the Lady Rebels 29-12 in the final 10:30 of the half. Whitney Jones, playing for the first time this week after soccer season, gave UCLA its first lead, 28-26, with a bucket at 5:50. Jones scored eight of her 10 points during that stretch. The Bruins took a 41-34 lead at halftime.
In the second half, the Lady Rebels started strong, cutting the Bruins' lead to 43-40, but the Bruins ran off seven straight points to increase the lead to 10. UNLV put UCLA on the foul line in hopes of staying in the game, but the Bruins made 11 of 14 free throws over the final 1:15 to secure the victory.
Greco, who moved into 10th on UCLA's all-time scoring list with 1,241 career points, and UNLV's Constance Jinks led all players with 26 points. Greco shot 8-13 from the field and led UCLA, along with Jamila Veasley, with five rebounds. Gennifer Arranaga, who was also selected to the all-tournament team, added 12 points on 6-9 shooting.
The Bruins improve to 3-1 on the year, while UNLV suffers its first loss to drop its record to 3-1. UCLA will host St. Mary's on Tuesday, Dec. 3 in the Bruins' home opener at 7:00 pm in Pauley Pavilion.
