Reggie Williams, Pickett, Ellis and Derek Johnson Named All-Pac-10
Dec. 2, 2002
Walnut Creek, CA - Washington sophomore wide receiver Reggie Williams, junior quarterback Cody Pickett, senior defensive end Kai Ellis and sophomore cornerback Derek Johnson were honored as all-conference selections by the Pac-10 Conference today. The all-Pac-10 team is selected by the league's head coaches.
Williams was Washington's lone player selected for first-team honors. Pickett, Ellis and Johnson were second-team selections. The Huskies also had seven players earn honorable mention distinction. That group included senior wide receiver Paul Arnold; junior safety Greg Carothers; junior inside linebacker Marquis Cooper' senior inside linebacker Ben Mahdavi; sophomore offensive tackle Nick Newton; senior tight end Kevin Ware and senior linebacker Jafar Williams.
Williams led Washington in 2002 with 89 receptions for 1390 yards. Both marks were Husky single-season records. Williams ranked fifth in the nation in receiving yards per game (115.8) and is eighth in receptions per game (7.42). During his first two seasons as a Husky he has already set UW career records for receptions (144) and receiving yards (2,363).
Pickett became the first quarterback in Pac-10 history to pass for more than 4,000 yards in a season. The Husky quarterback set numerous school and Pac-10 passing markings, including passing yards in a season (4,186), pass attempts (558) and pass completions (340). Just a junior, Pickett is already UW's career passing leader with 6,611 yards.
Johnson is tied for the Pac-10 lead in interceptions with five this year. He was named the Pac-10 Defensive Player of the Week in back-to-back games with Oregon State and Oregon. Ellis received the honor the following week for his play against Washington State. He led Washington in 2002 with seven sacks.
