No. 3 Cardinal Sweeps Sacramento State To Advance To Second Round

Stanford, Calif. - Senior outside hitter Logan Tom had a match-high 14 kills and 14 digs to lead the third-ranked Stanford women's volleyball team to a 3-0 victory over Sacramento State tonight in Maples Pavilion in NCAA First Round action. Game scores were 30-22, 30-8, 30-17.
The Cardinal improve to 28-4 on the year while the Hornets end their season at 24-11.
Game one remained close until Stanford pulled away with a four point run to make it 16-11. Strong serving by Lindsey Yamasaki put the Cardinal ahead 21-12. A kill by Sara McGee gave Stanford game point at 29-22. Logan Tom ended the game at 30-22 with a kill. The Cardinal hit .415 in game one.
With Stanford leading game two, 7-5, Lindsey Yamasaki served 19 consecutive points as the Cardinal rolled to a 26-5 lead behind her strong serve. Stanford continued to dominate reaching game point at 29-8 on a Sacramento State hitting error. Another Hornets hitting error ended the game at 30-8.
The Cardinal took a commanding 15-7 lead behind back-to-back service aces by Ashley Ivy. They extended the lead to 24-12 on a kill by junior Sara Dukes. Stanford reach game and match point at 29-17 after a Sara McGee kill. An attack error by Sacramento State ended the match, 30-17.
Stanford hit .370 for the match with 10 blocks and nine service aces. Sara McGee had 11 kills (11-1-18) while hitting .556. Ogonna Nnamani contributed 10 kills and two blocks while libero Courtney Schultz added 10 digs. Ashley Ivy tied her career high with six service aces on the night. Ivy now has 121 career service aces which moves her into fifth place all-time on The Farm.
Sacramento State was led by Santa Bandimere's nine kills and Jayme Wright's 14 digs.
The Cardinal will face Pacific tomorrow night at 7 p.m. in Maples Pavilion in NCAA Second Round action.
