Cal Signs Two Top Prep Swimmers
Dec. 12, 2002
The University of California men's swimming program has signed two top prep swimmers Blake Dickson and Graham Lentz, to National Letters of Intent, as announced today by Golden Bear head coach Nort Thornton.
Dickson is currently a student at The Bolles School in Jacksonville, Florida. He will compete for Cal in the middle distance and long distance freestyle events. Recently, Dickson helped Bolles to the 1A Florida State swimming championship title, anchoring both the 200 and 400 freestyle relay teams to victories. In October, Dickson visited the Bay Area to compete in the Tiburon Mile event, where he placed second in his group with a time of 23:40.
Lentz, a local swimmer from Petaluma, Calif., is a student at Casa Grande High School. Lentz is a versatile swimmer who will compete for Cal primarily in the breaststroke events. Last spring, Lentz won the 100 butterfly (50.81) and 100 breaststroke (57.14) at the 2002 North Coast Section Championships.
'Both recruits are very promising swimmers, and we expect good things from them,' Thornton said. 'They should instantly provide depth for us next season.'
