OSU Swimmers Among National Leaders

CORVALLIS, Ore. - All-Americans Naya Higashijima and Birte Steven lead a number of Oregon State individuals and relay teams with times among the top 50 in the nation this season. The list of NCAA Division I season-best times is complete through last weekend's meets.
In individual events, junior Steven is fourth in the 200-yard breaststroke (2 minutes, 12.02 seconds), seventh in the 100 breaststroke (1:01.68) and 39th in the 200 individual medley (2:03.62); senior Higashijima is 10th in the 200 butterfly (1:58.50) and 30th in the 500 freestyle (4:50.76); senior Paula Finlay is 31st in the 100 breaststroke (1:03.80); senior Suzanne Starkey is 36th in the 100 butterfly (55.76) and 45th in the 100 backstroke (56.51); freshman Monika Miroslaw is 48th in the 400 individual medley (4:23.40); and sophomore Kristin Huston is 50th in the 50 freestyle (23.58).
In relays, the Beavers are 12th in the 200 medley (1:42.98), 13th in the 400 medley (3:44.31), 36th in the 200 freestyle (1:35.66) and 400 freestyle (3:28.77), 26th in the 800 freestyle (7:31.76).
There's also been a change of date and opponents concerning Oregon State's meet next week in Hawai'i, where the Beavers are on their winter training trip. OSU will swim a pentagonal dual Thursday at 8 p.m. PST against host Hawai'i, Cincinnati, Dartmouth and Central Washington.
