Huskies Upended By Eastern Washington

SEATTLE - Alvin Snow scored 24 points to lead Eastern Washington to a62-58 victory over Washington, the Eagles' first-ever victory over the Huskies.

The 6-2 Eagles are off to their best start since opening the 1976-77 seasonwith a 15-1 record.

Nate Robinson scored 19 points, Doug Wrenn 12 and Will Conroy 11 forWashington (2-4).

Chris Hester added 10 points for Eastern Washington.

Washington had won all four of the previous meetings between the twoschools.

Washington never led, but the Huskies scored eight straight points to tiethe game for the third and final time at 56-56 on a Jeffrey Day put-back with2:15 remaining in the game.

The Eagles led by two with six seconds remaining when Snow missed a longjumper as the shot clock expired, but T.J. Williams grabbed the rebound forEastern Washington and passed it back to Snow.

Snow was fouled and made two free throws with 1.7 seconds remaining to sealthe win.

Snow, a junior, had seven steals to increase his career total to 121.

With the game tied 26-26 early in the first half, Snow had eight points anda steal during a 12-4 run that put the Eagles up 38-30 with 14:07 remaining.

Three of Snow's points during that run were free throws resulting fromtechnical fouls against Wrenn and Washington coach Lorenzo Romar.

The Eagles jumped out to an 8-2 lead and led by as many as six points twicein the first half.

Eastern Washington led 26-24 at halftime.
