Associated Press Tabs Reggie Williams 1st Team All-American
Dec. 17, 2002
Seattle - Washington sophomore wide receiver Reggie Williams has been named a first-team All-American by the Associated Press. It marks the sixth time this year that Williams has been honored as an All-American. He was also a first-team selection by the Football Writers of America Association, ESPN.com and Collegefootballnews.com. He was a second-team pick by CNNSI.com and The Sporting News named him a fourth-team All-American.
'This is a great honor,' Williams said. 'It just shows that hard work can pay off for you at the end of the day. I really appreciate being recognized by the AP and all of the other publications.'
Williams is the first Husky to earn first-team AP All-America honors since offensive guard Chad Ward in 2002.
Williams led Washington in 2002 with 89 receptions for 1390 yards. Both marks were Husky single-season records. Williams ranked fifth in the nation in receiving yards per game (115.8) and is eighth in receptions per game (7.42). During his first two seasons as a Husky he has already set UW career records for receptions (144) and receiving yards (2,363).
Williams is the first Husky wide receiver to earn first-team All-America honors since Jerome Pathon was named to the America Football Coaches Association team in 1997.
