Softball Signs Four Student-Athletes

TEMPE, Ariz. - Fourteenth year softball head coach Linda Wells announced the signing of four student-athletes to study and compete for Arizona State University in 2004. Three of the four student-athletes hail from California, while the fourth comes from Oklahoma.
'This class has great athletic and academic potential, noted Wells. I am pleased with the response of our new prospects in regards to Arizona State and its facilities. They will be an excellent group to continue to propel the Sun Devil softball program into the future.'
All four players have excelled on the field as well as in the classroom, with each player earning several academic and competitive honors. In alphabetical order the 2004 Sun Devil softball student-athletes are:
Kristin Crenshaw * Los Alamitos High School * Los Alamitos, California
Three-time letter winner and starter on the varsity team ... All-Sunset League ... CIF Division quarterfinalist in 2000 ... Orange County top-10 in stolen bases ... Western National Champions and State Champions in1998 and1999 ... final 10 ASA Nationals in 2000 ... lettered and started varsity soccer since freshman year ... All-Sunset League ... CIF quarterfinalist in 2002 ... CIF Southern Section Team Academic Champion in 2002 ... member of the honor roll from1999-2002.
Naomi Hixson * Westmoore High School * Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
Awarded the Sun Devil Scholarship from Arizona State University ... currently ranked 15th in a senior class of 619, carrying a GPA of 4.61 ... a five-time winner of the school systems Scholar Athlete Award ... four sport varsity letterman: Fast Pitch Softball, Cross Country, Track, and Basketball ... three-time Who's Who in American High School Students ... four-times Who's Who in American High School Sports ... member of several competitive softball programs who have won National Championships and high end of season rankings ... winner of the National Best Defensive Player ... winner of Nationals All-Tournament Team ... voted team member for Big All-City, All-District, All-Conference, and All-Region ... chosen as the Daily Oklahoman Player to Watch ... also current player on the Oklahoma Rebels softball team.

Named to the 2001 Los Angeles All-County Team ... 2000-2002 Scholar Athlete ... 2001 recipient of the Defensive Player of the Year from Simi Valley High School varsity team ... also 2001 honoree of the Most Valuable Player Award for SVHS varsity tournament ... 2002 team Captain ... first-team All-Marmonte League in 2002 ... also played for the travel ball team - American Pastime 18 Gold as a catcher.
Sharee Zaleski * Mater Dei High School * Santa Ana, California
Captain of the varsity softball team, coached by Doug Myers ... four-year varsity starting first-baseman, and two-time first-team honoree in the Serra League ... awarded Best Offensive Player during her sophomore and junior seasons ... helped Mater Dei, finish first in the Serra League CIF her freshman, sophomore, and junior years, with CIF playoff finishes of 2nd, 4th, and 3rd, for 2000, 2001, and 2002, respectively ... as a junior she had a batting average of .350 and a slugging percent of .530, hitting four home runs and registering a .985 fielding percentage ... also played travel softball with Amie Stewart's CA Rebels 18U Gold, where she play first base ... participated at 18U Gold Nationals in Broken Arrow, Okla. and slugged four home runs while at the 2002 Denver Showcase Weekend.
