Wes Whisler Named Collegiate Baseball Preseason All-American
Dec. 23, 2002
Sophomore first baseman and left-handed pitcher Wes Whisler was named to the Collegiate Baseball Preseason All-America Second Team today.
The Noblesville, Indiana native broke the UCLA freshman home run record in 2002 with 18. The 2002 Pac-10 Freshman of the Year recorded a .328 batting average with 46 RBI's. He also posted a 5-2 record on the mound with a team best 4.06 ERA in 84.1 innings of work.
It is not the first All-America honor for Whisler. Prior to his Collegiate Baseball preseason honor, Whisler was a preseason second-team selection by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association. He was named a third-team All-American by Baseball America last season, along with earning a spot on its All-Freshman Team. Whisler was also an All-Freshman team selection by Collegiate Baseball in 2002. He was also a Summer All-America selection by Baseball America after playing with the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox of the Cape Cod League.
