Men's Tennis Holds Its Own Against No. 23 Wake Forest

Waikaloa, Hawaii - The No. 73-ranked Oregon men's tennis team, playing without Manuel Kost for the third straight day, held its own against No. 23 Wake Forest in the final match of the Four Conference Challenge. In the mock-dual format, the Ducks won two of three doubles matches and three of seven singles matches.
'Against a top team and without our No. 1 player, it was a pretty good result,' assistant coach Ross Duncan said. 'It was a pretty good day for the Ducks.'
Jason Menke and Arron Spencer continued their impressive doubles play, winning at the No. 2 spot, 9-8 (7). Menke and Spencer went undefeated in doubles play during the Ducks' stay in Hawaii. Thomas Bieri and Junaid Hossain picked up Oregon's other doubles victory at the No. 3 spot, 8-4.
In singles play, Oded Teig and Sven Swinnen led the charge for the Ducks, winning at the No. 1 and No. 2 spots, respectively. Teig defeated No. 28 David Loewenthal in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4, while Swinnen matched the feat by beating No. 109 Mike Murray, 6-1, 6-3. Junior Chris King won at No. 7 singles against Andrew Simpson, 6-0, 7-5.
The Ducks' next action will come against Idaho at home in the Student Tennis Center Friday, Jan. 24.
