Stanford Women Tabbed No. 1 In Preseason Rankings

Skillman, NJ - The Stanford women were voted No. 1 in the preseason Omni Hotels Collegiate Tennis Rankings, while the Cardinal men check in at No. 4 as announced by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) on Monday.

The defending NCAA champion Stanford opens atop the women's poll for the fourth straight season, while UCLA is the preseason favorite in the men's poll for the first time since the 1999-2000 season.

The Stanford women received 20 of the 33 possible first-place votes for 807 points. Second-ranked Florida garnered six first-place votes, followed by No. 3 Georgia and No. 4 Duke collecting four and three first-place votes, respectively. No. 5 North Carolina, Arizona State, UCLA, Vanderbilt, USC and California round out the women's top-10.

Top-ranked Stanford has won the last two NCAA titles while winning 57 of its 58 matches under third-year head coach Lele Forood. The Cardinal returns ITA All-Americans Lauren Barnikow (Woodbridge, NJ) and Erin Burdette (Jackson, GA) from last season and adds highly-touted freshmen Alice Barnes (Cambridge, UK) and Amber Liu (La Mesa, CA).

The UCLA men received 29 of 41 possible first-place votes for 1,008 points. Second-ranked Illinois collected eight first-place votes, while No. 3 Baylor, Stanford and Florida round out the top-5 in the men's preseason poll. Sixth-ranked Georgia, USC, Mississippi, Kentucky and California finish the top-10.

The Cardinal men return NCAA singles semifinalists and ITA All-Americans Ryan Haviland (Aiken, SC) and David Martin (Tulsa, OK).

The latest national singles and doubles rankings were also released today. In women's singles, Barnes checks in at No. 13 and Liu is ranked at No. 17. No. 25 Barnikow is followed by No. 30 Burdette and No. 105 Emilia Anderson (Cincinnati, OH) for the Cardinal. Stanford's doubles team of Barnikow and Burdette check in at No. 8.

On the men's side, Martin leads the way with a No. 15 ranking. No. 46 Scott Lipsky (Merrick, NY), No. 50 KC Corkery (Manhattan Beach, CA) and No. 52 Sam Warburg (Sacramento, CA) round out the Stanford singles rankings. Lipsky and Martin check in as the top doubles team for the Cardinal, ranked No. 3. Corkery and James Pade (Woodside, CA) follow at No. 9 and Carter Morris (Washington, D.C.) and Warburg are ranked No. 57 in the preseason poll.

Georgia's Agata Cioroch is the top-ranked women's singles player and Tulane's Jenny Kuhn and Julie Smekodub are No. 1 in women's doubles. Baylor's Benedikt Dorsch is No. 1 in the men's singles rankings and Rice's Richard and William Barker are the top-ranked men's doubles tandem.
