Women's Tennis Checks in at No. 7

Jan. 13, 2003

LOS ANGELES - The UCLA women's tennis team will start 2003 ranked No. 7 in the nation, as the Intercollegiate Tennis Association listed its preseason rankings Monday.

UCLA, which advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinals in 2002 ending the season ranked No. 4 nationally, was joined in the Pac-10 by four other schools, including No. 1 Stanford, No. 6 ASU, No. 9 USC and No. 10 Cal.

Fall individual rankings were also released Monday. Senior Sara Walker was ranked No. 6 in the nation followed by freshman Jackie Carleton at No. 84. Due to late editions to the squad and several fall injuries, the Bruins did not have a doubles team ranked.
