UCLA Men's Soccer Update

The NCAA Champion UCLA men's soccer team has remained busy in the off-season, with several players participating on U.S. National Team camps and the MLS combine.
Senior defender Scot Thompson, who was recently named to Soccer America's Collegiate MVP team, and junior midfielder Adolfo Gregorio are currently playing with the U.S. Under-23 National Team on a five-game trip to Portugal from Jan. 14-23. The U.S. will play Sporting Lisbon reserves Jan. 14, Benfica reserves Jan. 15 and Santarem District Jan. 16 -- then take a four-day break before facing Russia's U-23s on Jan. 21 in Almeirim and Portugal's or Slovakia's U-23s on Jan. 23 in Abrantes. Also on the U-23 squad is former Bruin DJ Countess.
Freshman defender Jordan Harvey is playing with the U.S. Under-20 National Team in a 13-day training camp in Florida Jan. 12-24. The U-20s are preparing for the World Youth Championships, which will be held in the United Arab Emirates from March 25-April 16.
Seniors Ryan Futagaki and Tim Pierce are in Florida as well at the MLS combine. Futagaki, playing with team Supernova, scored a penalty kick goal in a 2-2 tie against the U-20 National Team on Jan. 12. The MLS SuperDraft will take place on Friday, Jan. 17 at 12:30 pm PT. Futagaki, Pierce, Thompson and Jimmy Frazelle are in the draft player pool.
In addition, UCLA team awards were announced on Jan. 10 at the year-end team banquet. Award winners were Aaron Lopez (Team MVP), Tim Pierce (Offensive MVP), Scot Thompson (Defensive MVP), Luke Mehring (Freshman of the Year), Chapin Kreuter (Most Improved), Tony Lawson (Most Inspirational) and Ryan Futagaki (Coaches' Award).
