Sun Devils Earn Another Top-10 Ranking Heading Into 2003 Season

TEMPE, Ariz. (www.TheSunDevils.com) - The Arizona State Sun Devil Baseballteam earned another top 10 ranking when they were picked ninth in theSports Weekly/ESPN Top 25 College Baseball Preseason Coaches poll. TheDevils were also ranked No. 8 by Baseball America, No. 10 by the NationalCollegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) and No. 12 by CollegiateBaseball.

The Sports Weekly poll, which formerly operated as USA Today BaseballWeekly until this year, is selected by 41 Division I head baseball coachesrepresenting the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA). Picked tofinish second in the Pac-10, ASU trails conference foes Stanford (#5) andUSC (#6) in the Sports Weekly poll.

The Sun Devils, who received 640 points in the poll, open the collegebaseball season tonight (Jan. 16) with a 6 p.m. (Hawai'i Time) game againstthe University of Hawai'i at Hilo Vulcans. ASU will play the Vulcans sixtimes in the next four days to open the 2003 season, includingdoubleheaders on Friday (3 p.m.) and Sunday (10 a.m.).

Arizona State makes its 2003 home debut at Packard Stadium next weekend(Jan. 24-26) with a three game series against the Tony Gwynn coached SanDiego State Aztecs.
