Bears Perform Well in Boise

BOISE, Idaho - - The University of California men's and women's track and field teams opened the indoor season at the Boise State Bandanna Indoor Invitational Saturday. Only the women's scores were kept and the Golden Bears defeated Cal State-Los Angeles (69-40), Cal State-Dominguez Hills (70-33) and UNLV (70.5-42.5) in dual meet scoring.
Cal's women's team fell to Boise State (71-63) and Nevada (108-38).
Leaders on the women's side included senior Erin Belger's win in the 800m (2:16.23) and the Bears' 4x400m relay team which placed second in 3:54.10. Sophomore Trinety White and junior Jenna Johnson notched runner-up finishes in the triple jump (11.88m) and shot put (13.86) respectively.
Top finishes on the men's side included junior Robert Kennedy's win in the long jump (7.17m) and junior Tim Bogdanof's win in the 60mH (7.8h). Cal's 4x400m relay team placed second with a time of 3:19.32, while junior Jeremiah Tolbert posted a runner-up finish in the long jump (6.71m). Junior Bruce Giron placed second in the triple jump (14.78m) and freshmen Teak Wilburn and Toby Atawo finished second in the high jump (2.15) and 60m-dash (6.8h) respectively.
Cal's indoor track and field teams are back in action in Boise next weekend. The Bears will compete at the Western Indoor Classic in the Jackson Indoor Track at the Idaho Sports Center Saturday, Jan. 25.
