No. 8 Stanford Falls To No. 6 Denver

Denver, Colo. - The eighth-ranked Stanford women's gymnastics team were defeated by the University of Denver 196.475-195.575 on Saturday night at the Hamilton Gymnasium. Junior Kendall Beck (San Antonio, TX) highlighted the meet for the Cardinal, recording a career-high 9.950 on vault and a 9.900 on the balance beam.

Sixth-ranked Denver handed Stanford its first loss of the season, falling to 3-1 overall. The Pioneers captured their first win over the Cardinal in eight attempts to improve to 2-0 on the young season.

Beck's career-high mark and winning score of 9.950 on the vault was followed by freshman teammate Natalie Foley's (Colorado Springs, CO) 9.875 score to place second on the event. Junior Lise L�veill� (Burnby, B.C.) and freshman Glyn Sweets (Reston, VA) each recorded an 9.800 to tie for fifth.

Junior Lindsay Wing (Cypress, TX) led the Cardinal on the bars with a 9.850 to place third. Foley, L�veill� and Sweets all posted scores of 9.800 to tie for sixth.

Beck continued her career-high night with a 9.900 performance on beam to place second. Foley and Wing tied for third with a 9.875 mark. L�veill� led the Cardinal on the floor exercise, tying for fourth place with a score of 9.875.

Foley was the high scorer for Stanford in the all-around competition, tallying a 39.375 to place third. L�veill� was right behind in fourth place with a 39.325. Denver's Michelle Kasuage won the meet with a 39.625 score.

Stanford will try to get back on the winning track on Friday, Jan. 24 against rival California. The meet is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. in Berkeley.
