Bruin Freshman Honored with USA Softball Junior Women's National Team

The United States Olympic Committee (USOC) announced it has selected the USA Softball Junior Women's National Team as its Team of the Month for December. Bruin freshman Emily Zaplatosch played on the Junior National Team, which had an outstanding tournament at the 2002 Pan Am Championships.

The Junior Women's National Team spent the month of December winning the 2002 Pan Am Championships in Hermosillo, Mexico and securing its place in the 2003 Junior Women's World Championships in Nanjing, China.

Under first year head coach Pam Newton, the USA Softball Junior Women's National Team totally dominated its competition at the championship in Hermosillo. The USA posted a perfect 8-0 record, while outscoring its opponents 91-0. Additionally, the U.S. pitching staff combined for four no-hitters and two perfect games.

The Junior Women's National Team edged out the USA Women's Water Polo Team and the U.S. Elite Water Ski Team for the honor.
