Women's Tennis Hits the Road to Start Season

Jan. 23, 2003

EUGENE - The Oregon women's tennis team, currently ranked No. 34 nationally, begins its dual meet season in Colorado. The Ducks will take on Colorado Friday and No. 45 Illinois Saturday, with both matches taking place in Boulder, Colo., at the Harvest House.

Oregon is coming off an extremely successful weekend at the Pac-10 Indoor Championships. Sophomore Daria Panova, No. 28 in the nation, claimed the singles championship by winning all four matches without losing a set. Junior Courtney Nagle upset No. 3-ranked Jewel Peterson of USC in the tournament as well.

Despite not being ranked in the latest polls, Colorado should provide an early test for the Ducks. Illinois feature two ranked doubles teams and one ranked singles player. Illinois has split its first two dual meets of the season.

The Ducks will return home to play Portland and Idaho on Feb. 1. Both matches will take place at the Student Tennis Center.
