Bears Win Three Events at Western Indoor Classic

The University of California men's and women's indoor track and field teams won three events at the Western Indoor Classic in Boise, Idaho Saturday. The meet featured teams from Boise State, Stanford, Idaho State and Cal State Fullerton, among others.

Junior Tim Bogdanof won the 60mH with a time of 8.06. The Golden Bears' 4x400 men's relay team was victorious, winning the event in 3:15.36. Cal's men's team also posted second and third-place finishes in five other events. Senior Ahmad Wright finished second in the 400m (48.41). Freshman Teak Wilburn and junior Bruce Giron also garnered runner-up finishes, as Wilburn placed second in the high jump (6-10.75) and Giron finished second in the triple jump (47-8.50).

Sophomore Randy Fair placed third in the 800m (1:55.15) and junior Robert Kennedy finished third in the long jump (23-5.25).

Senior Erin Belger was the only winner on the women's side (800m, 2:13.52), however several Bears notched runner-up finishes. Senior Lache Bailey finished second, behind teammate Belger, in the 800m (2:13.95). Freshman Osarhiemen Omwanghe placed second in the 60mH (8.68), while redshirt freshmen Elzunia Lamb and Qadriyyah Abdullah finished second in the long jump (18-6) and triple jump (37-10.5), respectively. Senior Sheni Russell placed second in the shot put (45-63.50).

Other strong performances included Cal's third-place finish in the 4x400 relay (3:52.60). Senior Leora Ward placed third in the pole vault (12-0) and junior Jenna Johnson took third in the shot put (45-2.25).

Cal's next competition is Feb. 1 when the Bears visit Seattle, Wash. For the Husky Indoor Invitational.
