Wrestling Returns Home for Pac-10 Battles
Jan. 29, 2003
The Oregon wrestling team returns home to face No. 12 Boise State and No. 6 Arizona State in an attempt to remain undefeated in Pac-10 action. The Ducks (5-6, 4-0) face the Broncos Friday at 7 p.m. and then take on the Sun Devils Sunday at 2 p.m., with both duals taking place at McArthur Court.
The Ducks will be facing their toughest task in the Pac-10 so far this season against the two ranked opponents. The two teams have a combined 11 ranked wrestlers, including seven in the top 10.
Sophomore Shane Webster, still ranked No. 7 nationally at 174, split his matches in Oklahoma and will face yet another top-10 opponent in Arizona State's No. 10-ranked Curtis Owen. Senior Tony Overstake has arguably the toughest task ahead of him of any Duck, facing No. 8 Collin Robertson of Boise State and No. 1 Eric Larkin of Arizona State.
Boise State has won the last four dual meets between the teams, including a 19-16 victory last season. The Broncos also won the Pac-10 Championship last season, when Oregon finished second.
The Sun Devils have a 17-meet winning streak against the Ducks, dating all the way back to the 1975-76 season. In Oregon's last meeting at McArthur Court, the Ducks lost by only three points.
