STANFORD OPENS 2003 SCHEDULE IN BERKELEY: The fourth-ranked Stanford men's tennis team opens its 2003 dual campaign against ninth-ranked California on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. in Berkeley ... The arch-rivals have met 82 times since 1967, and Stanford holds a 72-10 advantage ... The teams split the 2002 season series, with each team winning 4-3 on the road ... The Cardinal was originally slated to open up its 2003 schedule at the National Collegiate Tennis Classic on Jan. 17-19 in Las Vegas, Nevada, but the tournament was cancelled after the withdrawal of the title sponsor ... Following Saturday's match in Berkeley, Stanford returns to The Farm for four consecutive matches at the Taube Tennis Center ... The Cardinal will host No. 35 TCU (Feb. 8), No. 65 UC Irvine (Feb. 14), No. 63 Fresno State (Feb. 15) and No. 26 San Diego State (Feb. 17) before heading back on the road for the National Team Indoor Championship on Feb. 20-23 in Louisville, Kentucky.
ITA RANKINGS: Stanford is currently ranked fourth into the nation according to the Omni Hotels Collegiate Tennis Rankings released on Jan. 29 ... In the individual rankings (released on Jan. 13), Stanford has four players ranked in the top 55 ... Senior David Martin (Tulsa, OK) is ranked 15th in the nation, senior Scott Lipsky (Merrick, NY) is No. 46, freshman KC Corkery (Manhattan Beach, CA) is No. 50 and sophomore Sam Warburg (Sacramento, CA) is No. 52 ... Corkery moved up 43 spots from his pre-season ranking, while Warburg entered the top 125 at No. 52 ... In doubles, the Cardinal has two teams currently ranked in the top 10 ... Lipsky and Martin, who were finalists at the ITA All-American and semifinalists at the Omni National Indoor Championship, are No. 3 while freshmen Corkery and James Pade (Woodside, CA), who won the Omni Hotels Regional Doubles Championship, entered the rankings at No. 9 ... Redshirt junior Carter Morris (Washington, D.C) and Warburg, who were finalists at the Omni Regional, entered the rankings at No. 57.
ITA ALL-AMERICAN: Senior David Martin won the Cardinal's first title of the year by winning the consolation singles championship at the Icy Hot/ITA All-American on Oct. 8-13 in Chattanooga, Tennessee ... After falling in the first round of main draw action, Martin reeled off five straight wins to capture the consolation singles title ... Martin, who defeated Georgia's Nic Boeker 7-6 (6), 6-2 in the final, did not lose a set in the five victories ... Martin also advanced to the All-American doubles final with senior Scott Lipsky.
RACQUET CLUB INVITATIONAL: Sophomore Sam Warburg won the first tournament title of his collegiate career by capturing The Racquet Club Invitational on Oct. 18-20 in Midland, Texas.
