Bruin Swimming Falls to Stanford

Palo Alto, CA - In today's Pac-10 match-up between the No. 7 Stanford Cardinal and the No. 12 UCLA Bruins, UCLA lost 159-141. With the loss, the Bruins are now 5-2 overall, 2-2 in Pac-10 play.
On the day, the Bruins were led by freshman Kim Vandenberg, who won the 200 and 100 Fly in 1:58.17 and 55.11, respectively. Other Bruin individual winners were Malin Svahnstrom, Taylor Spivey and Sara Platzer. Svahnstrom won the 200 Free in 1:49.68, a NCAA provisional qualifying time. Spivey won the 100 Back in 55.59 and was second in the 200 Back 2:01.00. And, Sara Platzer won the 50 Free in 23.25 and was second in the 100 Free (51.18).
Other Bruin top finishers were Jackie Lobdell (1000 Free, 2nd, 10:05.59, and 500 Free, 2nd, 4:57.56), Kristen Lewis (200 Fly, 2nd, 2:01.45), Kendall Butler (200 Fly, 3rd, 2:04.62), Naoko Watanabe (200 Back, 3rd, 2:02.43), Brooke Winkler (200 Breast, 2nd, 2:18.41) and Liz Keating (500 Free, 3rd, 5:00.61).
In the diving events, Paige Thompson was second in the three-meter (262.05 points) and third in the one-meter (256.73 points). Regan Gosnell was third in the three-meter (246.00 points) and fourth in the one-meter (252.75 points). And, Sara Clark was fifth in the one-meter (226.80 points) and sixth in the three-meter (221.77 points).
The Bruins will face No. 9 California tomorrow in Berkeley, CA at the Spieker Aquatics Complex at noon.
