Women's Tennis Comes Home for Two Matches
Jan. 31, 2003
EUGENE - The No. 46-ranked Oregon women's tennis team will play its first home matches of the season Saturday against Portland and Idaho. The Ducks (1-1) face the Pilots at 10 a.m., followed by a match with the Vandals at 6 p.m. at the Student Tennis Center.
Oregon will have to play without junior Davina Mendiburu, who was lost to an ACL injury in the Ducks' first dual match of the season at Colorado. Mendiburu's season is most likely over, leaving the Ducks with only seven players to finish out the year.
The Ducks are led by sophomore Daria Panova, ranked No. 28 nationally. Panova currently has a six-match winning streak, with four of those wins coming when she won the Pac-10 Indoor Championship.
Oregon bounced back from a loss to unranked Colorado, 4-3, by defeating then-No. 45 Illinois by the same score. The Ducks won the doubles point and the top three singles positions to clinch the victory against the Illini.
Livescoring will be available for the Idaho match only this weekend. Fans can access the livescoring link via the schedule.
The Ducks will remain at home to play four matches in only three days beginning Feb. 7 against Sacramento State.
