California In 13th Place After One Round

After one round of play, the California men's golf team stands in 13th place at the 2003 PING-Arizona Intercollegiate. The second round was suspended Monday at 6:30 p.m. MST due to darkness. About two-thirds of the field still has one hole to play, as only six groups completed the second 18 holes of the day.
Play will resume Tuesday, Feb. 4, at 8:45 a.m. MST with the completion of the second round. The final round will immediately follow at approximately 9:15 a.m.
The Golden Bears shot an eight-over par 292, led by junior Peter Tomasulo tying for 15th place with a one-under par 70.
After the first round, UCLA leads the field by three strokes. The Bruins carded a 273 (-11) team total in the opening round to lead the 16-team field by three strokes. Host Arizona posted its low round of the year at 276 (-8)and stands in second place, four strokes ahead of Pepperdine (280). USC (282) and Pepperdine (282) round out the top five places.
Individually, two players are tied for the lead after Monday's 18 holes, as Arizona's Reid Hatley and UCLA's Roy Moon each fired a six-under par 65. Hatley's 65 was a career-low for the senior from Sopkane, Wash., and Arizona's low round of the season. All told, there were 14 players within four strokes of the lead after the first round.
Also competing for the Bears is junior Jesse Ruda , who is tied with freshman teammate Eric West for 45th place after a first-round 73 (+2), freshman Michael Wilson, who carded a 76 (+5) and is tied with sophomore Jeff Hood for 67th place.
The 54-hole tournament is being contested at Arizona National Country Club at Sabino Springs, a par 71, 6,793-yard facility. Live scoring is available on-line at www.golfstat.com.
