Feb. 3, 2003
EUGENE - University of Oregon soccer player and senior Sarah Peters became Oregon's first player selected in the WUSA Draft Sunday, while Chalise Baysa and recent UO assistant coach Keri Sanchez also heard important news from league teams the same day.
Peters, the Ducks' starting goalkeeper the past three seasons, and second all-time career-wise among Duck goalkeepers in saves (337), shutouts (3), and minutes (4,809), was taken in the fourth round of the player draft with the 28th pick by the San Jose CyberRays. The Woodinville, Wash., native was the fifth keeper taken in the draft and the fifth of six picks selected from the Pac-10 in the four-round, 32-pick draft.
Duck career scoring leader Baysa was selected to try out for three pro teams - Atlanta, San Jose, and Washington, while Sanchez was traded from Boston to San Jose.
