Pac-10 Baseball Player/Pitcher Of The Week
Feb. 4, 2003
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - UCLA sophomore right fielder Billy Susdorf has been named Pac-10 Baseball Player of the Week and ARIZONA STATE senior right-hander Jered Liebeck has been named Pac-10 Baseball Pitcher of the Week for Jan. 28-Feb. 3, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Susdorf, from Newhall, Calif., hit .533 (8-for-15) with two home runs, one double and seven RBI in three games last week. Susdorf put together multi-hit performances at the plate in each game. He hit his first home run of the season in the Bruins' season opener against Cal State Northridge and notched a 1.000 slugging percentage over the weekend with 15 total bases and six runs scored. His hits, runs scored and RBI were all tops among UCLA batters.
Liebeck, from Glendale, Ariz., turned in a complete-game, three-hit shutout against No. 13/16 Long Beach State to lead the Sun Devils to a 3-0 win on Saturday. Liebeck faced only 27 batters in the contest and allowed only one hit after the fourth inning. He had only one runner reach second base (1st inning) and retired 10 straight heading into the ninth, before he issued his only walk of the contest. Liebeck is now 2-0 on the season with a 1.35 ERA.
The Player of the Week honor is the first for Susdorf in his career, and the 38th selection all-time for UCLA. The Pitcher of the Week honor is the first such for Liebeck, and the 45th selection all-time for Arizona State.
