Withers And Wallis Selected In WUSA Draft

Atlanta, Ga. - Stanford women's soccer seniors Callie Withers (Los Altos Hills, CA) and Marcia Wallis (Los Gatos, CA) were selected in the 2003 WUSA Draft Sunday morning at the league headquarters in Atlanta. Withers was the fifth player selected, while Wallis was the 11th overall pick.
Withers, a midfielder, was taken by the Atlanta Beat in their first pick of the 2003 draft. The Los Altos Hills, Calif., native earned First Team All-America accolades for both athletics and academics. A dominate force in the midfield, Withers was named to the All-Pac-10 First Team and finished her career with 16 goals and six assists.
Wallis was picked in the second round, 11th overall, by the Boston Breakers. The forward from Los Gatos, Calif., was named a First Team All-American and the 2002 Pac-10 Player of the Year. A finalist for the Missouri Athletic Club's Hermann Trophy, Wallis set the program record for games played and started (86). Wallis concluded her Stanford career with 49 goals, which ranks third all-time, and 20 assists.
