2002 Award Recipients Announced
Feb. 6, 2003
CORVALLIS, Ore. - Coach Nancy Somera announced the recipients of the 2002 volleyball awards when the Beavers had their annual end-of-the-year gathering on Sunday.
Senior libero Nikki Neuburger was named the team's Most Valuable Player. She led the team with 386 digs in 2002, eighth best on OSU's single-season list. She ranked third in the Pac-10 with a 3.90 digs per game average, which was the second best in OSU history.
The Most Improved Player award went to redshirt freshman middle blocker Katelyn Healy. Healy played sparingly as a reserve in the early half of the season, but by the end of the year she had earned a spot in the starting lineup. She started 10 of the team's last 11 matches and had a career-high nine kills against Washington State. Her best outing of the year came at California, when she hit 1.000 with eight kills off the bench to earn a starting job for the remainder of the year.
Senior Katrina Nelson was named the team's Most Inspirational Player for the second year in a row. Nelson missed most of her senior year because of injuries but was still a leader even from the bench.
The team had its get-together at the Memorial Union bowling alley, and sophomore Allison Lawrence was voted the Most Outstanding Bowler.
