Five Cougars won their respective singles matches to give WSU the victory. At No. 1 singles, No. 77 Arias beat Thomas 4-6, 6-4, 6-2. Sallai, a sophomore at WSU, outlasted Marvel 6-3, 6-1 at No. 2 singles.
'We got off to a slow start yesterday against Hawaii, and we wanted to come out today and go after this team,' said WSU Tennis Coach Cari Groce. 'I'm pleased with today's play. Long Beach is a good team. We showed a lot of composure and played great tennis today. Orsolya Sallai played outstanding today.'
WSU will head to Boise for two matches next weekend. The Cougars will play No. 57 Boise State (Saturday at 10:00 a.m.) and No. 64 New Mexico (Sunday at 10:00 a.m.). Both matches will be played in Boise, Idaho.
