UA Men's Tennis Handles UC Santa Barbara

TUCSON, Ariz. - No. 48 Arizona men's tennis defeated UC Santa Barbara Sunday, by a score of 7-0. The Wildcats won two of the three doubles matches and swept the singles matches on its way to the victory.

Sophomore Colin O'Grady and freshman Roger Matalonga quickly defeated Michael Frick and Llya Leshinsky, 8-2, in the No. 3 doubles position. UA's No. 1 doubles team, consisting of sophomore Paul Warkentin and team captain, Carl Hagman, clinched the doubles point by beating Carlos Palencia and Mirco Schwindt, 8-4. Junior Whi Kim and freshman Daniel Andrus fell to Alex Anselme and Mike Placek in the No. 2 slot, 8-6.

Andrus started the singles matches by defeating his opponent, Michael Frick in the No. 5 spot, by a score of, 6-3, 6-1. Matalonga followed with a win over Nicholas Brotman in the No. 6 position, 6-1, 6-3. Clinching the match once again for the Wildcats was O'Grady who defeated Mike Placek, 6-2, 3-6, 6-1, in the No. 4 position. Playing No. 1 singles for Arizona, Kim defeated Carlos Palencia, 7-6 (4), 7-6 (4). Hagman played in the No. 2 position and defeated Micro Schwindt, 7-6 (5), 6-3. The final match to be completed was on court three, where Warkentin defeated Alex Anselme, 0-6, 7-6 (2), 7-5.

The Wildcats will be in action again on Tuesday, February 11, when it hosts Utah at the LaNelle Robson Tennis Center. The action begins at 1:30 p.m.
