UCLA Second after 18 Holes in Regional Challenge

The UCLA women's golf team is in second place after the first round of the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge, hosted by Ohio State at the Palos Verdes Golf Club.
The Bruins posted a team score of 292, eight-over par, and trail first place Pepperdine by eight shots. Oklahoma State is third at 294, followed by USC at 296 and Oklahoma at 300.
Individually, the Bruins enjoyed an eventful day. Sophomore Charlotte Mayorkas holds the first-round lead after firing a three-under par score of 68. Her round featured an eagle on the par-4, 351-yard first hole. She leads Pepperdine's Katherine Hull by one stroke. Sophomore Yvonne Choe, who posted a one-over par score of 73, is tied for 11th place with teammate Melissa Martin. Choe aced the par-3, 179-yard second hole. Junior Krystal Shearer posted a 78 and is tied for 49th, and junior Hana Kim recorded a 79 and is tied for 57th. Junior Bridget Dwyer, competing as an individual, shot a 78 and is tied for 49th place.
Linda Wessberg of Oklahoma State and Lindsey Wright of Pepperdine are tied for third place at one-under par 70.
Second round action continues Tuesday with the final round scheduled for Wednesday.
