12th Ranked Men's Golfers Prepare for Taylor Made Invitational

The 12th ranked UCLA men's golf team travels to The Big Island of Hawaii for the 13th Annual Taylor Made /Waikoloa Intercollegiate, hosted by Hawaii-Hilo University. Competition begins Wed., Feb. 12 and continues through Fri., Feb. 14.
At their last event, the Bruins finished second at the Wildcat Invitational, posting a 54-hole score of 831, 21-under par. Four players finished among the Top 20 individuals, highlighted by junior Roy Moon tying for third place.
In the first round, Moon fired a career-best round of 65 and found himself among the tournament leaders. He finished with a three-round total of 205, eight-under par, which tied him for his best career 54-hole score. This week, Moon is ranked 100th among collegiate golfers.
Freshman Spencer Levin recorded his fifth straight Top 20 finish, tying for 18th place at one-under par 211. Through five tournaments this season, Levin has finished no worse than three-over par and leads the team with eight rounds under par. All 15 of his rounds have counted in team scoring, and this week he is ranked 53rd nationally.
Junior All-American John Merrick tied for 26th at the Wildcat event. He boasts a Top 10 finish at the Pacific Invitational, tying for seventh place. Merrick has five rounds under par and a stroke average of 72.7.
As a team the Bruins are 25-under par through five tournaments. They have a streak of five straight Top 5 finishes and their 284.7 strokes per round average is 9.2 shots better than last year's squad at the same point in the season. Through five tournament, the Bruins have matched their individual totals for Top 10 finishes (8) and number of rounds under 70 (22) from last season.
