Pac-10 Baseball Player/Pitcher Of The Week

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - CALIFORNIA freshman shortstop Allen Craig has been named Pac-10 Baseball Player of the Week and STANFORD junior right-hander John Hudgins has been named Pac-10 Baseball Pitcher of the Week for Feb. 4-10, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Craig, from Temecula, Calif., hit .412 (7-for-17) with two doubles, a grand slam home run and five RBI in four games last week. In the Bears' sweep of Loyola Marymount, he was 6-for-14 (.429), snapping a 6-6 tie with a grand slam, and helping Cal to a 11-6 win on Sat., Feb. 8. Craig has hit safely in every game he has played this season.
Hudgins, from Mission Viejo, Calif., gave up only a first inning run in 9.0 innings of work to help Stanford take a 2-1 victory in 12 innings over Florida State in the series opener on Fri., Feb. 7. He struck out a career-high 10 batters without a walk and allowed just six hits, five of them singles. Hudgins is now 1-0 on the season with a 2.57 ERA, while leading the team in both strikeouts (19) and innings pitched (21.0).
The Player of the Week honor is the first for Craig in his career, and the 35th selection all-time for California. The Pitcher of the Week honor is the first such for Hudgins, and the 61st selection all-time for Stanford.
