BORDER DASH NEXT FOR COUGS: The Washington State University track and field teams travel across the state line to Moscow, Idaho for the 26th Annual Vandal Indoor and the McDonald's II Open Meets...both meets are held in the Kibbie Dome on the University of Idaho campus....Friday night's Vandal Indoor is a limited event meet but one which highlights some of the top collegiate and high school talent in the Inland Northwest...Vandal Indoor starts at 6 p.m. Friday with the final running event set for 9:15 p.m...the McDonald's II stages the discus (noon) and triple jump (4:30 p.m.) events Friday afternoon and the rest of the events Saturday beginning at 9 a.m...admission is $5 for athletes and spectators.
TRACKWIRE 25 POLL: Trackwire is an online newsletter for collegiate track and field...the Trackwire Top 25 are weekly rankings to project the outcome of the 2003 NCAA Division I Indoor Track & Field Championships...in the Feb. 11 rankings, the WSU women are tied for 24th and the men are not ranked......in the USTCA Team Power Rankings as of Feb. 10, the Cougar women are 12th and the men are 33rd...the Team Power Rankings are dual meet predictors and demonstrate team depth.

ABOUT THE COUGAR COACHES: Head coach Rick Sloan is in his 30th season with the Cougar track program; ninth year as a head coach, eighth year as mentor to the combined men's and women's program...he is joined by associate coach Debra Farwell, and assistant coaches Mark Macdonald, Kris Grimes, Francesca Green and Jason Drake...volunteer coaches are Dan O'Brien and Michael Friedberg.
LAST WEEK'S NEBRASKA ADIDAS CLASSIC HIGHLIGHTS: Sophomore Marie Muai won the women's weight throw event with a school record and NCAA Provisional Qualifying toss of 61-feet, 9 1/2 inches (18.85m). Muai broke Becky Potters' weight throw record of 61-6 1/4 thrown in 2000. Sophomore Danny Wolf was the lone victor for the Cougars on the men's side, winning the 3000m race with an NCAA PQ time of 8:05.05 Senior Tiffany Giles won the women's 400m dash with a lifetime-best time of 54.82, leading her heat throughout the race. Senior heptathlete Ellannee Richardson won the women's 200m dash in 24.16 and finished second in the 60m hurdles (8.55). All-American Whitney Evans won the women's high jump, clearing the bar at the same 1.81m/5-11 /14 NCAA PQ height as last week. The Cougar women's 4x400m relay of Giles, Monique Jessie, Angelita Green and Richardson won in a time of 3:43.39.
WSU INDOOR HISTORY: Because the Pacific-10 Conference does not sponsor indoor track and field competition, Washington State University competes in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation for indoor track season joining teams from the Pac-10, Mountain West, Western Athletic, West Coast and Big West Conferences...at the 2002 MPSF Indoor Championships, Cougar men finished second while the women were third...WSU Head Coach Rick Sloan was named West Region Men's Indoor Coach of the Year by the US Track Coaches Association for the past two years.
