UW Women's Golfers Open Spring Season

Feb. 14, 2003

Seattle - The Washington women's golf team will open its 2003 season at the Luna Bay Area Classic in Vallejo, Calif. Feb. 18-19. The 36-hole event will be held at Hiddenbrooke Country Club. This year's field includes California, San Francisco, Oregon State, UC Irvine, Long Beach State, Portland State, Gonzaga, Hawaii, Nevada and Denver. Washington enters the event ranked seventh in this week's Golfweek Collegiate Rankings.

Washington's lineup for the Luna Bay Area Classic will include freshman Sung Lee in the number-one position, Louise Friberg in the two slot, Lindsay Morgan third, Michelle Grafos fourth and Breana Minnitti fifth.

Husky sophomore Paige Mackenzie will not participate in the early portion of the Huskies spring schedule due to a back injury that has sidelined her since the end of the fall season. She is expected to rejoin the playing lineup in several weeks. Mackenzie led the Huskies last fall by posting a 73.8 stroke average during three tournaments. Mackenzie is ranked 26th this week in Golfweek's individual standings.
