No. 1 Bruins Shutout Arizona, 7-0

LOS ANGELES - A day after defeating Arizona State, 6-1, the No. 1-ranked UCLA men's tennis team completed its sweep of the Arizona schools Saturday, this time downing visiting Arizona, 7-0 at UCLA's Los Angeles Tennis Center. With the win, the Bruins move to 8-0 on the year. The Wildcats fall to 5-3 with the loss.
For the eighth time in as many matches UCLA started the day by claiming the one point awarded for doubles play, as the Bruins registered a pair of 8-2 decisions at the Nos. 1 and 2 courts. The Wildcats were able to post a win at the No. 3 spot, however the doubles point had already been decided.
Owning a 1-0 lead, the Bruins cruised in singles play, winning all six matches in straight sets. Four UCLA players were able to remain perfect in dual-match play with wins Saturday. Erfan Djahangiri improved to 8-0 with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Arizona's Paul Warkentin at the No. 4 position. Bruin sophomore Chris Lam and senior Lassi Ketola improved to 7-0 in dual matches this year, as Lam dropped only two games en route to a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Roger Matalonga and Ketola posted a 6-3, 6-2 win over Daniel Andrus. Junior Marcin Matkowski is the other Bruin yet to lose in dual-match play, improving to 6-0 with a 6-4, 6-1 decision over Arizona's Carl Hagman in the No. 2 spot.
The Bruins leave for Kentucky tomorrow and will face the University of Kentucky on Tuesday in Louisville. That match is in preparation for the USTA/ITA National Team Indoors, Feb. 20-23 at the Louisville Tennis Club. The top-seeded Bruins are scheduled to face San Diego State in Thursday's first round.
