Jeff Clement Named National Player Of The Week

Feb. 17, 2003

LOS ANGELES -- Freshman catcher Jeff Clement was named Collegiate Baseball National Player of the Week today after going 7-for-12 (.583) with four home runs and eight RBI in the Trojans' series sweep against South Alabama. He registered a 1.462 slugging percentage in the three games against the then-No. 23 Jaguars.

He became the first Trojan since Jason Lane (April 24-25, 1999, vs. Arizona State) to record back-to-back multi-home run games when he hit two on Friday and two on Saturday. After opening the season in a 1-for-15 slump, the freshman is now batting .286 (8-for-28) and leads the team in home runs (four) and RBI (eight).
