No. 7 Stanford Tops No. 9 Kentucky, 4-0

LOUISVILLE, Kentucky - The Stanford men's tennis team opened defense of its USTA/ITA National Team Indoor Championship with a 4-0 first round win over host Kentucky on Thursday afternoon at the Louisville Tennis Center. The seventh-ranked Cardinal improved to 5-1, while the ninth-ranked Wildcats dropped to 5-2.

The Cardinal advances to the quarterfinals against third-ranked Baylor on Friday at 1:00 p.m. (Pacific Time). The Cardinal now owns 74 all-National Team Indoor wins, which easily outdistances second place UCLA's 56 victories.

Stanford jumped out to a 1-0 lead with doubles wins from third-ranked Scott Lipsky (Merrick, NY) and David Martin (Tulsa, OK) at No. 1 and ninth-ranked KC Corkery (Manhattan Beach, CA) and James Pade (Woodside, CA) at No. 3.

The Cardinal then picked up three straight set singles wins to clinch the match. After 50th-ranked Corkery and 52nd-ranked Sam Warburg (Sacramento, CA) posted convincing wins at No. 4 and 6, respectively, 15th-ranked Martin closed out the match with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over 100th-ranked Evan Austin at No. 2.
