A Note From Coach Evans As Tip-Off Is A Day Away
Feb. 21, 2003
To All Sun Devils,
I would like to take a few minutes and say thank you for all of your support this year. It has been fun for our team to watch the fan base grow as we continue to reach our goals. Building a program is not easy and we are glad to have fans who are excited about not only this year, but the future.
Saturday night will be one of the best atmospheres in all of college basketball this season. We need your help to make sure it is a great event for both teams and universities. We have had a few incidents which have taken away from the game and players in the past year, and we want to make sure it does not happen again. Let's make sure we cheer with class and support the Sun Devils.
During the game, I don't notice what is going on in the crowd, but several people have told me that a chant has started which involves profanity. We have no place for that in our program. Five years ago, we arrived at Arizona State with the intention of cleaning up our program on and off the court. Our players and most importantly the children that attend our games don't deserve that. We need to have a classy program and that includes the crowd.
Also, nothing should ever be thrown on the court. If you see someone throw something, contact an usher or security officer. Nothing more needs to be said about this, as everyone knows it can affect the outcome of a game. We certainly don't want an outcome to be decided by foolishness.
Saturday night is going to be fun and exciting. The doors open at 5:30 and I encourage you to be in your seats at tip-off and avoid the lines and traffic. We have had a great week of practice and are looking forward to not only this game, but our home games against Oregon and Oregon State to close the regular season. Let's make sure that the arena continues to be a great place to watch ASU basketbal for everyone of all ages.
See you at Wells Fargo Arena Saturday night. Go Sun Devils!
