Duck Men Hosts Trojans, Bruins
Feb. 24, 2003
WHAT'S ON TAP . . . Oregon returns home for the final time in 2002-03 to host USC on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. and UCLA Saturday at 1 p.m. The Oregon Sports Network will broadcast the USC game, while CBS will show the Oregon-UCLA game to a regional audience. Saturday, Oregon will honor its two seniors, Brian Helquist and Robert Johnson.
RIDNOUR THREATENS SEASON ASSISTS MARK . . . Luke Ridnour needs just 23 more assists to break the UO single season assists record of 184, set by Ron Lee in 1975-76. Ridnour enters the USC game with 162 assists on the season, which currently ranks seventh. With at least five games remaining (four regular season and at least one in the Pac-10 Tournament), Ridnour needs to average 4.6 assists per game to break Lee's record; he's currently averaging 6.5 per game. Ridnour had 176 assists last season, which is the second-most ever at UO.
KENT TIES HARTER, REACHES 100 WINS AT UO, 200 CAREER . . . Ernie Kent tied Dick Harter -- his college coach -- for fifth on the UO career victories list Feb. 20 at Washington State. In six years at Oregon, Kent has a 112-64 record and is 202-144 overall in 12 years. Harter was 112-82 in seven years (1972-78). Kent recorded his 200th career coaching victory when the Ducks defeated No. 25 Stanford on Feb. 6. Earlier this season, Kent became the sixth coach in Oregon history to reach 100 coaching victories at UO (defeating Pepperdine on Dec. 14). Among Oregon coaches, only William Reinhart (125 games) and Basketball Hall of Famer Howard Hobson (134 games) reached 100 wins faster than Kent (158 games).
RIDNOUR NAMED TO WOODEN AWARD MIDSEASON TOP 30 . . . Junior guard Luke Ridnour was named to the Wooden Award Midseason top 30 (one of only three Pac-10 players, joining Arizona's Jason Gardner and Luke Walton). The Blaine, Wash., native is averaging 19.3 points and 6.5 assists per game. He is just the third Duck to reach 400 career assists (444), and ranks fourth in career steals (134) and three-pointers (179). Ridnour also ranks 13th in UO career scoring (1,233). On the assists list, he has passed the likes of NBAers Terrell Brandon (315/1989-91) and Frederick Jones (367/1998-2002) this season and trails only Ron Lee (572/1972-76) and UO's all-time leader Kenya Wilkins (614/1993-97). See p. 4 for career lists.
