Nicole Powell Named Pac-10 Women's Basketball Player Of The Week

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- STANFORD junior forward Nicole Powell has been named the Pac-10 Women's Basketball Player of the Week for Feb. 17-23, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Powell, from Phoenix, Ariz., averaged a double-double of 23.0 points, 12.5 rebounds, 6.5 assists and 3.0 steals in home wins over USC and UCLA that clinched the Cardinal's third straight Pac-10 title. On the weekend, Powell shot .500 from the floor (18-of-36), .556 from 3-point range (5-of-9) and .833 from the foul line (5-of-6).
In the 63-55 win over the Women of Troy (Feb. 20), Powell recorded her 27th career double-double and seventh of the season with 22 points, 16 rebounds, eight assists and two steals. In the second half alone, she notched 18 points and pulled down 10 rebounds. In Stanford's Pac-10-clinching 79-61 victory over the Bruins (Feb. 22), Powell finished with 24 points, nine rebounds, five assists and four steals. Powell scored 46 points in the two-game homestand to move into 15th place on the Stanford all-time list with 1,296 career points.
Stanford (22-3, 14-5 Pac-10), ranked ninth in the Feb. 16 Associated Press poll, travels to Arizona and Arizona State this week.
The Player of the Week honor is the sixth for Powell, her first of the season and the 48th all-time selection for Stanford. Only six players have ever received the honor more times than Powell.
