This Week: The Pac-10 has three teams currently ranked in Collegiate Baseball's Top-30 poll in No. 4 ARIZONA STATE, No. 7 STANFORD and No. 21 USC ... The Sun Devils continue to be the hottest team in the country with an overall record of 21-1 and are winners of their past 12 consecutive games ... After taking a 2-1 series victory over defending national champion, Texas last weekend, the Cardinal stays home for non-conference action against Southern California ... CALIFORNIA faces road tests at Santa Clara and Oklahoma State this week ... Winners of three in a row, ARIZONA takes on No. 16 Texas A&M in a weekend series at Frank Sancet Field ... OREGON STATE, UCLA, WASHINGTON and WASHINGTON STATE participate in tournament action this weekend as the Beavers and Huskies travel to California for the Lancaster Tournament, the Cougars play in the annual Banana Belt Tournament and the Bruins will face perennial powerhouses, Texas, Tulane and Cal State Fullerton in Fullerton's own tournament.

2003 TEAM NOTES

ARIZONA (9-4, 0-0)Last Week: Minnesota L 13-10, W 11-5, W 7-2; Oklahoma State W 7-4This Week: Texas A&MThe Wildcats are off to a strong start with a 9-4 overall record and have won six of their last seven games ... The team has only taken to the road once this season - a series sweep at UC Irvine - and won't pack their bags until the second weekend in March ... Junior RHP Sean Rierson became the first Wildcat pitcher in almost 20 years to toss a two-hit, complete-game against UCI on Feb. 15 ... Against Minnesota on Feb. 23, junior Moises Duran was 3-for-3 and drove in two runs to guide UA to a 7-2 victory ... Sophomore Pat Reilly's 18-game hitting streak was kept alive on Feb. 24 when he went 1-for-3 against Oklahoma State ... Arizona has notched three of a possible four series wins thus far.

ARIZONA STATE (21-1, 0-0)Last Week: Gonzaga W 8-4, Dayton W 10-1, Notre Dame W 16-3, W 14-8This Week: Penn StateOne of the hottest teams in baseball, ASU is off to its best start in school history since 1972 (23-1) with a 21-1 overall record ... The Sun Devils are holding down the No. 4 spot in both Baseball America and Collegiate Baseball's latest poll and have jumped as high as No. 2 in the Sports Weekly/ESPN rankings ... Their lone loss of the season came on Jan. 31 against Long Beach State by a score of 11-5 ... The 21-1 record includes a 4-1 record against ranked opponents and wins over three teams that participated in the NCAA Tournament last year ... ASU is averaging 11 runs per game and has scored 10 or more runs in four straight games ... The Devils will play their next 15 games at Packard Stadium, including a Pac-10 opening series to end the stretch against nationally ranked Stanford (Mar. 22-24).

CALIFORNIA (10-5, 0-0)Last Week: St. Mary's W 6-2, Long Beach St. L 1-0, W 6-3, L 6-1 This Week: Santa Clara, Okla. StateThe Bears are off to strong start, posting a 10-5 overall record ... Cal won six consecutive games from Feb. 4-Feb. 14, before suffering a 6-5 loss to Texas-Pan American in 13 innings ... The team only took one of three games against No. 8 Long Beach State last weekend, but had outstanding starting pitching in the weekend series ... Junior RHP Brian Montalbo pitched a career-high 8.3 innings, allowing only five hits, three runs, one walk and five strikeouts on Feb. 22 ... Besides Montalbo, Matt Brown, in a 1-0 loss to Long Beach State Feb. 21, pitched 7.0 innings with only three hits, the lone run was unearned, with two walks and four strikeouts ... Sophomore RHP Kyle Crist, in his first start of the season, shutout the 49ers, pitching a career-high 6.0 innings, with two hits, no runs, two walks and two strikeouts.

OREGON STATE (5-5, 0-0)Last Week: New Mexico W 18-16, L 14-7, New Mexico St. L 15-7, W 16-14This Week: Lancaster TournamentOregon State evened its record at 5-5 with a 16-14 win over New Mexico State on Feb. 23 ... The Beavers were down 14-0 after five innings in this game, but managed to find 16 runs while blanking the Aggies over the final four innings for the victory ... OSU's individual record for hits in a game was matched twice in one game on Feb. 21 as the Beavers beat New Mexico 18-16 in the Baseball Fiesta at El Paso, Tex. ... Senior first baseman Andy Jarvis was 5-for-6 with two doubles, a home run and seven runs batted in; his roommate on the trip, junior outfielder Seth Pietsch, was 5-for-6 with two doubles, a triple and two runs batted in ... The Beavers, along with Pac-10 foe Washington, will play in the Clash of the Conferences in Lancaster, Calif. this weekend.

STANFORD (9-6, 0-0)Last Week: Texas W 11-7, W 8-7, L 7-1This Week: USC (non-conference)The No. 7 Cardinal is coming off a series win over defending national champion, Texas ... Stanford put together 11-7 and 8-7 wins on a doubleheader on Feb. 22, before being defeated, 7-1 on Feb. 23 ... Junior outfielder Carlos Quentin had a huge day last Saturday going 7-for-10 with four doubles, a pair of RBI and a stolen base ... He also scored five runs in the doubleheader and was hit by a pitch ... In the opener, he had his first career five-hit game, going 5-for-6 with three doubles and an RBI ... For the week, he was 8-for-15 (.533) with four doubles, two RBI, a stolen base, five runs scored, two walks and two hit-by-pitches ... Stanford notched six-straight wins from Feb. 14-22 ... Freshman John Mayberry, Jr. extended his hit streak to seven games and has hit safely in his first 14 of 15 collegiate at-bats.

UCLA (8-9, 0-0)Last Week: Utah W 3-0, W 3-0, Creighton L 10-4, W 2-1, Texas A&M L 7-2This Week: Cal St. Northridge TournamentThe Bruins have an 8-9 overall record folowing a 2-0 loss versus Texas A&M in the final day of the Dominos Pizza Aggie Baseball Classic ... UCLA has notched two series wins thus far, against Cal State Northridge and North Carolina State ... Five of UCLA's eight losses have come by five runs or more ... Sophomore RHP Bryan Beck got his first start of the season on Feb. 24 against Creighton ... Beck lasted four innings, allowing only one hit and striking out four batters ... Sophomore right fielder Billy Susdorf was named the Pac-10 Player of the Week for Jan. 28-Feb. 3 ... Susdorf put together one double, two home funs and seven RBI to garner the award.

USC (5-6, 0-0)Last Week: Baylor L 2-1, L 9-8, L 3-1This Week: Stanford (non-conference)In the latest pollls, USC is ranked 16th, 21st and 17th by Baseball America, Collegiate Baseball and Sports Weekly/ESPN, respectively ... The Trojans are coming off a disappointing weekend that saw them drop three straight to No. 9 Baylor ... All three games were close, USC losing by only four runs combined the entire weekend ... On Feb. 22, 12 innings were necessary before the Bears were able to down Southern California, 2-1 ... In 98 2/3 innings this season, the USC pitching staff has allowed only 24 walks... From Feb. 9 through Feb. 15, the Trojans had a streak of 22 consecutive innings without allowing a walk ... Freshman Jeff Clement became the first Trojan since Jason Lane (April 24-25, 1999, vs. Arizona State) to record back-to-back multi-home run games ... Clement hit two home runs, including his first collegiate homer, in a 10-2 win on Feb. 14 against No. 23 South Alabama at Dedeaux Field and hit two more the following night.

WASHINGTON (4-5, 0-0)Last Week: Gonzaga L 13-2, L 16-1, W 7-3This Week: Lancaster TournamentAfter posting three straight wins over UCSB, Houston and Loyola Marymount, the Huskies dropped four straight to WCC foes, LMU and Gonzaga ... UW bounced back from 13-2 and 16-1 home losses to take the final game of the weekend series against the Bulldogs, 7-3 ... Through nine games thusfar, Washington has committed only five errors, two of which were by infielders, for an outstanding .986 clip ... Junior transfer Trent Baysinger has yet to allow a run, earned or unearned, in nine innings of work ... Baysinger has one win and one save on the year ... Sophomore Kyle Larsen has 56 career starts at first base for the Huskies and has yet to commit an error in 552 chances ... Larsen also leads the team in home runs (4) and RBI (7).

WASHINGTON STATE (1-8, 0-0)Last Week: San Jose State L 4-0, W 11-9, L 12-0 This Week: Banana Belt TournamentWashington State won its first game of the season against San Jose State on Feb. 22 by a score of 11-9 ... Outfielders Justin Hart and Steve Mortimer both went 2-for-4 from the plate in the final day of the weekend series against the Spartans ... The Cougars head to Lewiston, Idaho for the Banana Belt Tournament to face BYU, Portland and Lewis-Clark State ... Senior infielder Bruce Jacobsen leads the team with a .500 batting average in seven games played this year ... In 16 at bats, he has eight hits, one double, three runs scored and two RBI.
