Soccer Sets Academic Record
Feb. 26, 2003
TEMPE, Ariz. - The 2002 Arizona State women's soccer team not only had success on the field as they reached the second-round of the NCAA Tournament, but also in academics, as all 22 members of the team earned a 3.0 grade-point average or above in the classroom. This is the first time in the program's seven-year history that all members of the squad achieved this level of success in the classroom.
Also, Amy LePeilbet was named to the 2002 Verizon Academic All-American Third-Team and was the only Pac-10 student-athlete selected. LePeilbet's national academic honor is the soccer team's first and fourth All-Region selection in the program's history.
Additionally, LePeilbet's first-team selection headlined an impressive list of a school record six Sun Devil soccer players on the 2002 Pacific-10 Conference Women's Soccer All-Academic teams.
To be eligible for selection to the academic team, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade-point average and be either a starter or significant contributor. The Sun Devils also had four second-team honorees and one honorable mention choice.
