Spartan Invitational Next Stop for UW Women Golfers

Seattle - The 10th-ranked Washington women's golf team returns to the links March 4-5 for San Jose State's Spartan Invitational. This year's event will be held at Corral De Tierra Country Club in Salinas, Calif. The 54-hole tournament features 36 holes of play on Tuesday and the final round of Wednesday. Corral De Tierra will play as a par-72, 5,938-yard course for the event.
Joining Washington and host San Jose State in the 14-team field are Arizona State, California, CS Monterey Bay, Oregon, Oregon State, Hawaii, Long Beach State, Pepperdine, San Francisco, UC Irvine, UCLA and UNLV.
Last year Washington finished tied for second in the event, one stroke behind California. The Golden Bears shot 886 while the Huskies and Pepperdine shared runner-up honors at 887. South Carolina's Kristy McPherson took medalist honors at 211 while UW's top finisher was Kelli Kamimura in sixth at 219. Louise Friberg also cracked the top-10 for UW, placing seventh at 220.
The Huskies are coming off a sixth-place finish at the Arizona Invitational where Lindsay Morgan led UW with a third-place finish. Morgan shot 2-over 213 during the event, including a collegiate best round of 68 during the final 18 holes of play.
Morgan currently has a stroke average of 74.5, which is just behind Friberg's 74.4 mark among the active players. The Huskies will be without sophomore Paige Mackenzie, who is sidelined with a back injury.
