Cougars Fall to Gonzaga 10-0 in Tournament

LEWISTON, Idaho - - Washington State dropped their final game of the Banana Belt Tournament, falling 10-0 to Gonzaga Sunday at Harris Field.
Eric Dworkis (2-0) went eight innings, allowing eight hits and no runs to notch the win. Nate Williams pitched a scoreless ninth for the Bulldogs. Aaron MacKenzie (0-3) pitched 4 1/3 innings, allowing five runs on three hits in the losing effort.
WSU (3-10) finished the four-day tournament with a 2-2 mark. Gonzaga (4-6) went 2-1.
The Cougars had nine players collect a hit. The Bulldogs were led by Gordon Corder's 4-for-5, five-RBI performance.
Gonzaga took a 3-0 lead in the top of the third inning and followed by getting two more in the fifth. They closed out the scoring with two more runs in the seventh and three in the eighth.
WSU's best scoring opportunity came in the bottom of the seventh. After Justin Hart and Robert Stahlke both reached on singles, Collin Henderson came up to bat, but hit a ground ball to third baseman Danny Evans who tagged out Hart to end the inning.
The Cougars return to the road next weekend with a three-game, non-conference series with Washington. Game one is slated for a 6:30 p.m. start Friday at Husky Ballpark.
