Baseball Home-Opener Rained Out

March 4, 2003

CORVALLIS, Ore. - Oregon State's home-opener for the 2003 baseball season was rained out on Tuesday, as wet weather kept the Beavers and Portland from playing their scheduled game. The game will be made up on a date to be announced.

Opening Day for Goss Stadium at Coleman Field's 94th season of baseball is now set for Friday, when OSU opens a series against Nevada at 3 p.m. That series continues Saturday at 1 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m.

On Tuesday, dry skies in the middle of the day gave the Beavers and Pilots hope that the game could be played and both teams arrived at the ballpark. Showers prompted OSU to tarp the field shortly after noon; it was removed once, but more precipitation meant covering the field again. The Beavers, Pilots and umpires waited until 3:30 p.m. for the skies to clear before the game was called.
