March 4, 2003

THIS WEEK: The No 42 Washington State women's tennis team travels to California for two matches this weekend. WSU plays No. 29 San Diego State Saturday (March 8) and the University of San Diego Sunday (March 9).

THE SERIES: Washington State has won three of five matches against San Diego State, including a 4-3 victory over then No. 44 SDSU last season (Feb. 3). WSU has struggled against San Diego, winning just one of five matches in the all-time series.

TOUGH SCHEDULE: WSU has 11 more matches scheduled this season, and all but one (San Diego on March 9) will be against teams ranked in the ITA's National Rankings.

HOT COUGS: Washington State has won six of its last eight matches, including three against ITA ranked opponents. The Cougars have defeated No. 65 New Mexico (Feb. 15), No. 58 Boise State (Feb. 16) and No. 49 BYU (Feb. 28) this season.

COUGARS IN THE RANKINGS: The Cougars are anchored by junior Lorena Arias, ranked No. 77 in the ITA's preseason rankings. Arias joins with doubles teammate Chris Martinez to form the preseason No. 45 doubles team in the nation.

NEXT WEEK: The Cougars next competition will be a home match as the Cougars take on No. 37 Oregon (Sunday March 16). The match will most likely be played indoors at the LCSC tennis courts in Lewiston, Idaho.
