Women's Golf Third After First Two Rounds of Spartan Invitational

SALINAS, Calif. - The Arizona State women's golf team maintained its hold on third place after shooting a 18-over 306 on Tuesday afternoon in the second round of the Spartan Invitational, which is being held March 4-5 at the par 72, 5,938-yard Corral de Tierra Country Club.
The Sun Devils followed up the team's season-low morning round of four-under 284 with an 18-over 306 in the afternoon for a two-round total of 590. Pepperdine continues to lead the tournament after carding the best score in each of the two rounds for a total of nine-under 567 (275-292). UCLA is second at 585 followed by Arizona State (590), California (597) and UNLV (598) in the top five. ASU heads into Wednesday's final round looking for its second consecutive third-place finish and its third in four events.
Individually, sophomore Erin Tone and freshman Alissa Kuczka lead the Sun Devils with each golfer tied for eighth with a two-round total of three-over 147. Tone shot a three-under 69 in the first round followed by a six-over 78 in the afternoon, while Kuczka continued her consistent play with a one-over 73 in the first round and a two-over 74 in the second round. Senior Gaï¿½lle Truet is tied for 23rd at seven-over 144 (70-81), while senior Blair O'Neal is tied for 27th with a two-round total of 152 (72-80). Junior Lisa Desimone made the biggest jump in the standings from the morning to the afternoon round, climbing 14 spots with a two-over 74 in the second round for a two-round total of 154 (80-74).
Pepperdine's Katherine Hull continues to lead the tournament individually with a two-round total of 10-under 134. Hull carded a course-record 63 in the morning round and followed that up with a one-under 71 in the afternoon.
The Spartan Invitational wraps up with the final round on Wednesday with tee times starting at 8 a.m. Pacific Time (9 a.m. MST).
