Men's Tennis Hits the Road Again

March 6, 2003

EUGENE - The No. 64 Oregon men's tennis team hits the road again, this time in Texas, to play two ranked non-conference foes. The Ducks (7-3, 0-1) will play No. 36 Rice Friday at 11 a.m. and No. 11 Texas A&M Saturday at 4 p.m.

'We are anxious to get back on the bike this weekend,' head coach Chris Russell said. 'The guys are looking forward to another opportunity to prove themselves. Every match counts regardless of the last one.'

The Ducks are coming off a pair of disappointing losses to ranked teams, including their Pac-10 opener against Washington, 6-1. Oregon will need to bounce back quickly as the Ducks will face six ranked singles players and the No. 1 and No. 3-ranked doubles teams in the nation in the two matches.

'Rice and A&M are very good teams, so hopefully it brings out the best in us,' Russell said.

Individual rankings were not released this week, but will be updated March 12. Sven Swinnen and Oded Teig are still ranked No. 15 in doubles, while Teig comes in at No. 79 in singles play.

The Ducks will have more than two weeks off following this weekend's matches. Oregon's next matches will be at home against San Francisco and UC Riverside on March 25.
