Arizona State's motto this season may be 'It's how you finish,' but it's the teams' hot start that has everyone talking.
The No.3 ranked Sun Devils (24-1) are off to the best start in school history, topping the 1972 team who went 23-1. The team's lone loss of the season was an 11-5 defeat at the hands of No. 10 Long Beach State on January 31. The Sun Devils took the next two games to win the series and start the current 15-game winning streak, the best the school's seen since winning 23 straight in 1990.
'The team is really excited,' said ASU head coach Pat Murphy, who recorded his 700th career win with a victory over Notre Dame earlier this season. 'Any time you play well, you try to build on it. They realize we play in one of the toughest, if not the toughest, conferences and there are still a lot of games to be played.'
The offense, led by first basemen Jeff Larish, has been on a tear and shows no signs of slowing down. The team is averaging over 12 hits and 11 runs per game and has scored five or more runs in an inning 18 times this season. Their 35 home runs in 25 games this year is just three shy of last years total of 38 dingers in 58 games.
